As I nervously prepared for my first “PB” marathon (one where I was chasing a time, rather than just hoping to survive!) My very encouraging running coach said to me:
“Adrian, the time will happen, or it won’t. Don’t worry about getting to the finish line. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and eventually the line will come to you”
Never a truer word spoken.
You might recall one of my first posts in this blog, in which I described running as a celebration of our own body & its movement and an exercise in persistence.
At least that’s what I was trying to get across! The importance of learning the trick behind success in running (and many things) - just showing up consistently :-)
Whether you’ve managed to do every session in your program, or if life has somehow conspired to limit your running over the last couple of months, I bet you’ll recognise the truth in that.
This is the last week listed in your program. The finish line is coming to you.
It’s not always easy, is it?! Work, injury, weather, footy, family, LIFE! It can all get in the way making running hard to get in the habit of.
Regardless of how the program has panned out for you, I hope you feel fitter than you did. That’ll help you into the exciting finals period we’re about to be involved in.
More than anything, I hope you’ve learned to enjoy running more than you did before. That’ll help you into next year and for all your footy career (maybe even beyond!)
You can ALL be proud taking this on. You’ll get another crack at a program over summer and this experience will set you up better than you might realise.
We have one more Cooper test to run. I’ll be there early on Wed for those that are keen. 5:30pm gun time. If you can’t run, think about getting there to support your mates as they break all land-speed records in pursuit of time trial glory!
See you there
